Materials: The main components are fiberglass fabric or mat and a polymer resin (such as epoxy, iso polyester, or vinylester).
Surface preparation: A clean, dry, and textured surface is crucial for proper adhesion. This often involves sanding or grinding the surface and wiping it with a solvent like acetone to remove contaminants.
Application: The resin is mixed with a catalyst and applied to the prepared surface, followed by layers of fiberglass fabric. Tools like rollers are used to work the resin into the fabric and remove air bubbles.
Curing: The resin cures to form a hard, solid composite. The time required for curing depends on the specific resin used.
Protective measures: Wear long sleeves, gloves, a mask, and safety glasses to protect against skin irritation and inhalation of fibers and resin fumes.
Applications: Due to its strength, durability, and ability to be molded, fiberglass is used in many industries.
